Key Responsibilities

  1. Keeping up-to-date with the regulatory landscape, interpreting and translating existing and evolving laws, regulations, and guidelines applicable to our industry.
  2. Managing compliance within the organization, including the review, interpretation, and communication of pertinent regulations, ensuring that the company and its employees operate in accordance with industry-specific regulatory obligations to prevent breaches.
  3. Offering corrective guidance for identified areas with potential compliance risks and addressing problematic issues, while also providing general guidance on how to prevent or handle similar situations in the future.
  4. Developing, periodically reviewing, updating, and disseminating the relevant policy dashboard and report templates to business stakeholders to ensure alignment with current regulatory requirements.
  5. Conducting regular compliance gap analyses to assess the organization’s compliance status, and conveying findings to process owners for resolution.
  6. Coordinating, overseeing, reviewing, and evaluating the activities of the SDOs (Staff Designated Officers) with respect to their assigned compliance responsibilities to help them stay informed of requirements and trends and to ensure that compliance concerns within the organization are managed appropriately.
  7. Collaborating with the Learning & Development Unit to design and implement effective company-wide Anti Money Laundering/Counter Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) training programs, including appropriate onboarding presentations for new employees.
  8. Providing regular management reports and, as directed or requested, updating the Board and Senior Management on the operations and progress of all compliance efforts, achievements, and concerns.
  9. Serving as the principal point of contact between the company and regulatory agencies and responding to government investigations, inquiries, and authorized requests related to regulatory compliance issues.
  10. Processing and obtaining prescribed statutory approvals for branches, branch managers, senior management, advertisements, and publications from the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM).
  11. Representing the company, in conjunction with other internal stakeholders, in the Risk, Audit & Compliance Committee of the Nigeria Insurers Association.
  12. Coordinating and ensuring the timely submission of all relevant returns to various regulatory and government agencies such as NAICOM, SEC, NSE, NFIU, CAC, FRC, and more.
  13. Ensuring that queries from these agencies are responded to promptly, when applicable.
  14. Screening the list of potential customers provided by the business to determine their political exposure, risk profile, and sanction listing status.
  15. Collaborating with other departments to identify, investigate, and resolve compliance issues.

Qualifications

  1. HND / B.Sc. / B.A. / LL. B
  2. Membership of CIN, ACAMS (an added advantage)
  3. 3 – 5 years of experience as a Compliance or Compliance & Legal Officer in an insurance company.
