Job Summary

The Fund Development Manager holds the key responsibility of leading and driving fundraising efforts within the organization. This role involves:

  • Taking the lead in fundraising initiatives and providing leadership.
  • Focusing on achieving increased income from various sources such as corporations, individuals, trusts, and philanthropic foundations.
  • Representing the organization at a senior level and overseeing day-to-day operations as required.
  • Crafting and updating a strategic vision for the Fund Development function.
  • Implementing a strategy to diversify income streams for sustainable growth.
  • Operating as a core member of the Senior Management Team (SMT).
  • Handling strategic and annual planning, budgeting, and executing, monitoring, and evaluating Fund Development projects in alignment with organizational standards, policies, and strategies.
  1. Lead Initiatives:
    • Initiate contact with potential corporate supporters, major donors, and individual givers.
    • Utilize networks and experience to identify engagement opportunities.
    • Rigorously monitor and evaluate activities for financial returns and strategic impact.
  2. Strategic Planning and Execution:
    • Develop, implement, and evaluate plans for corporate, trusts, and major donor fundraising.
    • Collaborate with internal teams to explore income generation possibilities.
    • Build on existing team contacts and networks.
  3. Relationship Building:
    • Establish and nurture contacts with corporations, major donors, and trusts.
    • Leverage knowledge of social networks and sector dynamics.
  4. Policy and Compliance:
    • Customize Fund Development policies, guidelines, and standards for local relevance.
    • Ensure adherence to established policies and processes.
  5. Strategy Enhancement:
    • Periodically review and amend fundraising strategy and plan.
    • Innovate and identify new opportunities based on research and trend analysis.
  6. Partnership and Growth:
    • Manage strategic partnerships and relationships internally and externally.
    • Contribute to sustainable funding growth and achieve strategic goals.
  7. Capacity Building and Growth Targets:
    • Foster capacity building for Fund Development.
    • Achieve a 10% annual increase in local fundraising net income.
  8. Donor Recruitment and Retention:
    • Recruit new individual and corporate donors.
    • Service and retain existing donors.
  9. Event Management:
    • Develop appealing and targeted special events.
    • Ensure successful execution of integrated campaigns.
  10. Team Leadership:
    • Manage and develop the Fund Development team.
    • Model professionalism and build team capability.
  11. External Representation:
    • Represent the organization at a senior level.
    • Contribute to external profile and image.
  12. Innovation and Child Protection:
    • Drive innovative projects for children’s care and protection.
    • Mainstream Child Safeguarding/Protection Policy in Activities.
  13. Reporting and Evaluation:
    • Plan, monitor, evaluate, and analyze fundraising activities.
    • Measure performance against key indicators and reporting procedures.

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

  • B.Sc / HND in Marketing, Sales, Business Administration, International Business Development, or a related field
  • A Master’s Degree in a related field OR 10 years experience in Fundraising
  • At least 10 years experience in Fundraising
  • A minimum of 7 years of managerial experience in a related role
  • At least 5 years experience in an NGO/iNGO in a related role
  • Experience in Nigeria in a similar role
  • Experience in leading Fundraising activities
  • Experience in digital fundraising, Individual giving, and Corporate Fundraising
  • Excellent Networking Skills
  • Sound understanding of donor engagement and retention
  • Understanding NGO`s operations, best practices, and market trends.
  • Understanding of the Child and Youth Development Principles
  • Knowledge of programs in an NGO environment.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and networking skills.
  • Good knowledge of Children`s rights
  • Excellent Knowledge of the Fund Development process.
  • Knowledge of relevant Nigerian legislation.
  • Experience in Strategic Planning.
